So how do you look after your Wrought Iron Bistro Set?

When most people think of bistro sets the first style that comes to mind is a  Wrought Iron Bistro Set

They look great but how do you look after them?

A Wrought iron bistro set is virtually indestructible but it does require a bit of maintenance.

Always wash your wrought iron bistro table and chairs with warm, soapy water.
Warning : DRY THOROUGHLY. NEVER LET THE FURNITURE SIT IN A PUDDLE OF WATER.

It’s best to wash wrought iron furniture every spring and fall and if you have any spills mop them up straight away, and remember to apply a good quality auto wax or a liquid furniture spray that won't leave a white powder in the crevices twice a year. Protective finishes will generally protect your wrought iron patio furniture from rusting.

Watch the weld areas _ these are usually the first place rust appears. Spray with a product like 409 and use a toothbrush to clean rust off. Dry thoroughly and apply touch-up paint.

Make sure that you always apply thin coats of paint to your wrought iron patio furniture and allow it to dry between coats. (Touch-up paint is usually available from the manufacturer.)

If your wrought iron bistro set is scratched down to the bare metal , sand with a fine grained sandpaper, and use Rustoleum and/or the touch-up paint.
Use WD-40 in any steel-action mechanisms

Start by scrubbing the rust lightly with a wire brush. Scrub hard enough to remove any rust flakes, but be careful not to scratch the paint (unless the rust is so bad that you'll have to repaint the furniture).

If you see rust stains but no flaking, use a very fine steel-wool pad dipped into kerosene, and brush out the stains. Be sure to wear safety goggles and rubber gloves when working with kerosene, and (of course) stay well away from open flames.

If rust has developed in the joints of the furniture, it may be easier to disassemble the furniture and work with the individual pieces.

When you've finished removing the rust, coat the furniture with liquid wax, available at most automotive stores. The wax will help protect the finish against further rust.

Severe rust problems can be treated with naval jelly, which dissolves rust--but be careful because this will usually dissolve the paint. Some products convert the rust into a primer so the metal can be painted later.

A good quality exterior-grade spray paint is best for use on your Wrought iron bistro set. These are available in many different colors at your local hardware store.
